About Counselling

Counselling/psychotherapy is a talking therapy that gives you time and space to discuss your worries and feelings with someone who is not involved in your life.

My approach uses a variety of different methods and insights, such as those drawn from Transactional Analysis (TA), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Sand Tray Therapy. My aim is to work in partnership with you, to help you recognise and gain self awareness. In this way you become more aware of how your thoughts, feelings and behaviour all interact, which will include looking at significant past relationships to help you understand yourself and how you interact with people and situations in your life.

What will I Achieve?

Through talking to me counselling will:

Help you to increase your self awareness and develop a better understanding of yourself and of other peoples point of view.
Help you to come to understand and conquer your anxieties.
Help you deal with and overcome issues that are causing you to feel uncomfortable.
Help you to cope with a relationship breakdown such as marriage, friendships, family or with work colleagues.
Help you come to terms and cope with feelings of grief, loss, sadness, depression and scare.
We can look at issues that prevent you from achieving your dreams or ambitions or even come to a place of acceptance and understanding of your situation in life and what choices you do have.
Help you to identify your strengths and resources and gain a greater insight of yourself, your relationships and life.
Help you to see things from a different perspective, to feel empowered and be able to clarify things and make positive choices.
Help you to decide if you want to make changes in your life or not.
To do some self exploration and personal development and maybe to explore what is working or not for you in your life.

About Me

My name is Pam Tibbles and I have been a counsellor/psychotherapist for several years.
I am an experienced BACP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist. I have a well established private practice in Freemantle, Shirley, Southampton SO15. I have recently moved my practice from Totton, in the New Forest, where I had been offering therapy and counselling for over ten years to individuals.

I understand that when we are feeling anger, grief, depression, confusion or anxiety it can be hard to turn to our family and friends. Coming for therapy and being able to talk honestly to someone outside of our lives can be very helpful and gives you the opportunity to release these feelings and express your thoughts. To go to counselling and seek therapy is not a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength.

I have had the privilege to witness how therapy has changed lives, and highlight that therapy and counselling research shows that the most important factor in gaining results is in the relationship between therapist and client. Therapy works due to the confidence and trust generated in the counselling relationship.
